Reduce potential road accidents, city cops launch ‘Use footpath’ initiative

A move to reduce potential road accidents, the City Police on Tuesday launched a new initiative named “Use footpaths”. The new initiative was started from Jhanshi Rani Square to Variety square in the presence of Commissioner of Police Dr. Bhushan Kumar Upadhyaya. The police have tied a rope parallel to the footpath to demark walking area and prevent pedestrians from straying onto carriageway. Chief Project officer Jamil Ahmed, Chandrakat Udgirkar and many business persons were present during the event. The Children are more susceptible to the dangers of road. It is not solely the drivers of vehicles who cause accidents but carelessness of pedestrians and lack of awareness which add up the cause of accidents on road. The citizens should encourage their family members and children to use subways, zebra crossing etc.In this event, the advisory for pedestrians are given.

The advisory reads following points:

Walk carefully with all senses on. Look towards on coming traffic. Never assume driver has seen you when you are about to cross the road, it’s your responsibility to save yourself.  Avoid crossing road where drivers may not be able to see you.  Wait for suitable gap in the traffic flow before crossing the road.  Never jump over divider railings. You may tumble on to the traffic. Always hold hands of children while crossing the road. Avoid using roads for morning walks and jogging. Take extra care if you have to cross road on or near a crest or curve.  Avoid crossing road between parked cars.  Crossing road by shortest and direct route reduces your time on road. The initiative allowed citizens to experience the freedom of walking on safer footpaths in city.
