Instead of five-day week, police employees appealed the government to give salary hike

Recently Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced five-day week for government employees. While this announcement received mixed response from the employees.

As per the new directive, five-day week will not be applicable to departments and services coming under ‘A List emergency category. This list includes police department as well. And an anonymous letter hails this decision .However, the letter further states that police employees do not have the right to organize agitation or morchas to press for their demands like employees of other departments. It question the difference in justice by accepting demands of those agitating and indifference to demands of those not having the right to agitate.

Employees of other departments also receive holidays on festivals. However, police employees have to conduct double duty on such days for security reasons which is alright. But there is no increase in salaries. Even the raise as per 7th Pay Commission is being given in phased manner in five years. Therefore instead of five-day week, the police employee has appealed to the government to give them salary of one day against that week.
