Department of Civil Engineering had organized guest lecture on “Pesticides Contamination in Water Resources & its Harmful Effect†by Dr. Sandeep K. Shukla, Research Officer, Central Water Commission,Nagpur. A pesticide is a chemicalor biological agent (such as a virus, bacterium, or fungus) that deters, incapacitates, kills, or otherwise discourages pests. Target pests can include insects, plant pathogens, weeds, molluscs that destroy property, cause nuisance, or spread disease, or are disease vectors. Along with these benefits, pesticides also have drawbacks, such as potential toxicity to humans and other species.
Students actively present in the lecture. The expert explained the importance water, its Source, availability, water treatment process before supply to public. He informed on how the water could be contaminated by pesticides. He also explained the excess use of pesticides deteriorates the nutrition values in vegetable and fruits and it becomes dangerous for the human health.The expert guided the students which food may be less pesticides contaminated and good for the health
