This year VNIT witnesses hike in placements

This year, one of the prominent engineering colleges in the country, Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) witnessed hike in the number of placements as 86 percent of all eligible students have got placements. The figure has increased by 56 percent in comparison to 2018-19.This fact has come to fore when RTI activist Abhay Kokarkar had sought information in this regard under Right to Information Act from VNIT.

The RTI sought information like how many students got placement in VNIT this year, how many vacant seats were there. As per the official source, 521 students in VNIT were eligible for placement in 2019-20.130 companies gave actual offer for placement to 449 students among them. All students in computer science and mechanical engineering branches got placement. The percentage of placement in civil engineering branch was 51 only. Meanwhile here were admissions on 1355 seats out of 1483 seats during 2019-20.The VNIT students got average package of 8.55 lakh during 2019-2020.The highest figure of package was Rs.38.21 lakh. The point to be noted here is that in 2012-13 year got highest package of Rs.65 lakh per year.
