New farm laws will just add to our woes: Vidarbha Farmers

Today on December 23 when the farmers of various countries mark World Farmer’s Day, various organizations are complaining regarding the current state of farmers in the state.

Director of National Federation of Farmers Procurement Processing & Retailing Corporation of India Ashok Singh said, “Farmers of Vidarbha are really struggling, our condition is really very bad. To get our normal MSP for the crop we really have to fight a lot from the Government. The unseasonal rains this year have really caused us huge losses. Tonnes of our crops got destroyed. Now adding to these the new farm laws will do nothing but add to our miseries and woes”.

He added that it’s really an irony that the farmers that are protesting against the new farm laws had to go to such an extent to protect their own rights. We want justice for our men who are protesting in Delhi despite such harsh climatic conditions. The two farmer leaders who have committed suicide we want justice for them as well.

In Vidarbha, “The Government is changing, from Congress to BJP-Shiv Sena, to Shiv Sena-Congress-NCP our miseries, problems issues have all remained the same. Despite Vidarbha receiving good rainfall last monsoon, our water scarcity problem is very much intact”.  All the last three Government of State has made promises but failed to deliver and fulfill them.

As far as our demands are concerned he said, “We want proper MSP for our crops, fruits and vegetables, the protesting farmers and the NDA Government should reach a common ground at the earliest and this protest should end and the losses that the farmers of Vidarbha had incurred due to the unseasonal rains the State Government should compensate them”.
