A special programme was organized at Kavivarya Suresh Bhat auditorium to mark the 32nd Road Safety Campaign under the jont aegis of National Highway authority (NHAI) of India, Regional Transport Department Nagpur (RTO) and Member of Parliament Road Safety Committee. During the programme Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has said that the real cause of road accident is technical error. In many places black spots have occurred due to such flaws. About 12000 crore have been spent to find and fix them. He also said that everyone should work with sensitivity to avoid accidents. He added that the number of people who died due to accidents on highways is 1.50 lakh.

The number of people crippled by accidents is four and half lakh. The number of youth injured in accidents is high is worrying. Of the 52 black spots discovered by the Road Security Committee, 20 have been rectified. This has reduced the accidents in rural areas by 8 percent and death cases by one percent. Evidence of accidents in urban part has decreased by 23 percent and death by 16 percent. Gadkari pointed out four sources to avoid accidents. This will be emphasized through the Member of Parliament’s Road Security Committee. This includes improvements in road engineering, public awareness about traffic rules, strict implementation of the law and readiness to help.
