Mission Indradhanush, Second round of vaccination to commence from March 22

The Central Government launched the ‘Mission Rainbow’ campaign in 2014 with the objective of protecting children less than 2 years of age and their mothers from seven types of diseases through vaccination by 2020. These include Whooping Cough, Tetanus, Polio, Tuberculosis, Diphtheria and Jaundice-B and in some states Hemophilia and Influenza (Type B) through vaccine dose. In 2009 this proportion was 61 per cent, in 2013 it was 65 per cent and by the end of 2020 this proportion is expected to reach 90 per cent.

Under this Mission Indradhanush campaign, second round of vaccination for toddlers who were left out in first round would start in city from March 22. As per information, under this, vaccine will be given free to children in the age group of 0 to 2 years (Dropout and Left out) and pregnant mothers. The first round of vaccinations started from February 22 and will continue for the next 15 days. The vaccine is being distributed in all Urban Primary Health Centres of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). Due to outbreak of COVID-19 in the past year, many children missed the regular vaccinations. Therefore this campaign is being undertaken in two rounds by the NMC to ensure that every child gets vaccinated. The second round will continue for the next 15 days from March 22. In order to take advantage of this additional vaccination session, everyone should visit their nearest UPHC and get vaccinated.
