On-line RTMNU Senate meeting to be held tomorrow

The budget of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University will be presented during the Senate will be held on March 9. A large number of members are not happy as the meeting is being conducted on-line. Usually several issues are raised during the budget meeting of the Senate and corrections or amendments made in it.

Major issues include utilisation of the university money, heavy expenditure on security, extending contract for conducting and processing of examinations and results without proper tendering process, fees of lawyers of the university are discussed. Some members stated that these issues can be discussed only when personal attendance is ensured. Conduct of examinations is a major issue this year.

The agencies which were hired through tender process for three years in 2015, have been continued without inviting fresh tenders. This issue has invited heated discussion during last few meetings. However, the reasons for allowing them to continue are still not clear. Some members alleged that they get very little chance to speak.

Besides glitches in the network, their speech can be ‘muted’ anytime by the authorities. With construction of huge new Administrative Building by the university, Senate meeting with personal attendance and also by following all rules of COVID-19, is possible. The University authorities, however, are not interested in conducting the meeting off-line, they have alleged.
