Authorities struggling to keep pace with contact tracing due to lack of manpower

The coronavirus spread has surged all over again. Everyday 3,000 to 3,500 coronavirus patients are being found in the city. Considering the surge in positive cases, the civic authorities have decided to trace and conduct tests on at least 20 persons coming in contact with every coronavirus patient. But the teams of Nagpur Municipal Corporation are unable to reach even 50 percent of people in reality.

On other hand, the people to whom teams reach, people say that they don’t have symptoms and avoid getting tested. They only go to the doctor when they feel some serious health issues.

There are 151 teams in all ten zones of NMC for contact tracing. Every team has two employees. Due to low number of employees, the teams are reaching less that the target number. The remaining suspects are not being traced and they are also avoiding to get tested. Such infected persons cannot be searched and assumed to be super spreaders moving in various areas.

Such an irresponsible attitude from the citizens has led to rising in COVID cases. To break the chain of the virus, it is necessary that the manpower must be increased and the citizens cooperate with the teams in the fight against the deadly virus.
