NSS student volunteers to maintain statues in city

NMC and RTMNU sign MoU on Monday

The statues of national, historical and religious heroes, installed in various localities of Nagpur, will be taken care of by the National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteer students of various colleges.

A Memorandum of Association (MoU) has been signed between Nagpur Municipal Corporation and Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, here on Monday. The proposal by NMC Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari was granted green signal by the University authorities.

Nagpur has selected 68 statues and 14 memorials, which will be looked after by the NSS volunteers. NMC’s Fore Brigade and Estate Office will co-ordinate with the NSS unit of the University for the purpose.

The participating students, about 750 in number will be issued certificates and will also be trained in basics of fire fighting.

The meeting to discuss the details was chaired by the Mayor. Registrar of the University Dr Raju Hiwase welcomed the project and assured that a booklet providing information about persons whose statues have been installed, will be published by the University.

Tiwari has appealed to the social organisations to volunteer for maintenance and beautification of the statues and memorials and their premises in the city.

RTMNU NSS Coordiniator Sopandev Pise, officers of NMC and corporators were present.
