Citizens speak on issue of Boycott Laal Singh Chaddha

Aamir Khan-Kareena Kapoor’s starrer ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, which arrived in theatres on August 11, has received mixed reviews from critics.

As we all know the film is an official adaptation of the 1994 Hollywood feature Forrest Gump starring Tom Hanks.

The film has reportedly left the fans disappointed after it had a slow start on an opening day. Despite Thursday being a holiday, the film could garner only Rs 11 crore, as per early estimates.

Apart from this boycott ‘Laal Singh Chaddha is still trending which has dampen the box office collection more.

According to a report by Box Office India, ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ opened in the range of around Rs 10-11 crore as it was released on the occasion of ‘Raksha Bandhan’. The film is also facing a clash with Akshay Kumar-Bhumi Pednekar’s family drama ‘Raksha Bandhan’, which also arrived in theatres on the same day.

In Nagpur as well the film received a disappointing start as only 15-20 per cent occupancy was recorded in many prominent theaters.

Here is what Nagpurians think about the movie and the issue

Shubham Harde a movie lover says, I know it is the exact adaptation of ‘Forrest Gump’ and we have already watched the film, I was not able to feel a connection with the film.

Twinkle Kharbikar said, I love bollywood films but it is a long weekend and have I will spend quality time with my family and will watch the film later.

Manpreet Kaur a teacher said, I won’t be watching the film as I already know the story; there is nothing new to see. Plus it is a long weekend instead of watching films I will spend the time with family and take part in Independence Day.

Divyani Kamble an assistant manager in the insurance company said, I will watch the film but when it gets released on the OTT platform, and instead of going in theatres I will use that time to do something more productive.

‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ recorded a 15-20 per cent occupancy, which is a worrying figure for an Aamir Khan film. The opening day figures, according to a report by Box Office India, are anything between Rs 10-11 crore. Akshay Kumar’s ‘Raksha Bandhan’ was also released alongside ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’. According to early trade reports, Raksha Bandhan also earned approx. Rs 10 crore on Day 1.

Meanwhile, the film has received a poor rating on IMDb. ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ has received a rating of 3.5 on IMDb based on 12,000 votes. This Aamir’s lowest-rated film on IMDb so far. Mr Perfectionist major flops like ‘Mela’, ‘Dhoom 3’ and ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ have a better rating on IMDb than ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’.
