The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has ramped up its efforts against encroachments by forming five squads to conduct simultaneous operations. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari reviewed the situation and instructed civic officials to clear footpaths and road side are cleared of all encroachments. From Wednesday onwards, this expansion from a single team to five teams aims to ensure that all major streets are free from encroachers.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Ajay Charthankar has been assigned to oversee the anti encroachment efforts. The NMC officials have identified key areas to focus on, particularly Sitabuldi Main Road in Dharampeth Zone no. 2. Only hawkers with valid licenses are allowed to operate, and they must set up their stalls on one side of the road. This rule is being enforced strictly.
The anti-encroachment squad has cleared footpaths around Mor Bhavan, Jhansi Rani Square, Munje Square, and Variety Square of pushcarts and other semi-permanent structures. During this drive, approximately two truckloads of material were seized.
The anti-encroachment squad also focused their efforts in Gandhibagh Zone 6, clearing occupants from footpaths along Kelibagh Road, Gandhibagh, Teen Naal Square, Nanga Putla Square, and Old Bhandara Road. Similarly, all encroachments were removed from the stretch between Ganjakhet and Bhavsar Square. During these operations, one truckload of material was seized.
In Dhantoli Zone the action. was taken at Medical Square to ensure that traffic flows smoothly. The footpaths and push carts that were by road side were removed. Action was also taken in Satranjipura near Marawadi Square, Nehru Putla, Golibar Square, Shahid Square. Under Mangalwari Zone the anti-encroachment drive was conducted in busy Sadar area.
The action was supervised by Assistant Commissioner, Anti- Encroachment, Harish Raut, Superintendent Sanjay Kamble, Engineer (Anti- Encroachment) Bhaskar Malwe.
