The Maharashtra government is giving top priority to resolving the issues faced by families affected by Nagpur’s MIHAN project, with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde instructing the MIHAN administration to take swift action here on Monday.
During a meeting held at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai, CM Shinde chaired discussions on the MIHAN project, with Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also in attendance. Key officials present included Minister for Soil and Water Conservation Sanjay Rathod, MLAs Chandrashekhar Bawankule and Ashish Jaiswal, Additional Chief Secretary to the CM Vikas Kharge, and other senior government officials.
CM Shinde emphasized the need for affordable development charges on plots within the MIHAN project area. He also directed that a revised administrative approval proposal for the necessary project funding be presented in the next cabinet meeting. Additionally, commercial complexes built in village panchayat areas in the MIHAN region should be handed over to the respective panchayats to provide a stable income source. Shinde also called for reducing water bills sent to village panchayats during the rehabilitation process.
Deputy CM Fadnavis suggested relocating residents of the MHADA housing colony in MIHAN to alternative locations outside the project zone. He urged authorities to expedite the allotment of developed plots to rehabilitate the project-affected families. Fadnavis also highlighted that village panchayats in the MIHAN area, which lack tax collection rights, should be provided with revenue through a model similar to that used by MIDC to help them generate income.
