The traffic on the Ambazhari route, which has been closed for the past four months, is set to reopen soon as the work on the Ambazhari bridge between the Ambazhari T-point and Gajanan Mandir, leading towards Hingna and the university, has been completed.
Last year, heavy rains caused an unexpected increase in the discharge from the Ambazhari Lake, which was attributed to the Swami Vivekananda Memorial, encroachments on the Nag River, and a small bridge that carried away the excess water. As a result, a four-lane elevated bridge has been constructed. Senior engineer Sandeep Shende from the Public Works Department informed the local media, that it will soon be opened for traffic. Following the intervention of the High Court, the administration expedited the construction of the bridge. Initially, one side of the bridge was scheduled to open for traffic on October 6. However, it was later decided to allow traffic from both sides simultaneously. While the bridge is complete, but the approach road leading to it still needs time to be finished with cement concrete. As a result, the bridge will open for traffic without a formal inauguration ceremony. Traffic will start using the bridge tomorrow, Friday, October 11.
As per the local media report, the testing of the bridge has been completed. Cement roads will be constructed on both sides of the bridge, with the work expected to be finished in about a month. Due to increased traffic during Navratri, Dussehra, and Dhamma Chakra Pravartan Day, the traffic will begin on the bridge on October 11 to prevent congestion. Senior Engineer Shende mentioned that a letter regarding this has been sent to the city traffic police.
