Nagpur: Dr. Debashish Bhowmick, the principal of Prof Arunrao Kalode College, has been booked for allegedly cutting trees without proper authorization. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Ajni Police Station.
On July 31, several heritage and non-heritage trees were reportedly felled at Kalode College, located in Indraprastha Layout, Omkar Nagar, without prior permission. The matter came to light after Dr. Umesh Chute filed a complaint with the Garden and Tree Authority Department of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).
Upon inspection, NMC officials confirmed that nine trees, including two teakwood trees, were illegally cut down. The felled trees were found loaded onto a pickup vehicle, registered under number MH 49 AT 6365.
Following a complaint filed by Amol Chorpagar, a tree conservation officer with the NMC, a case has been registered against Dr. Bhowmick under the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees Act. Further investigations are underway.
