Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has introduced an 80% waiver on late fees for water tax defaulters, offering substantial relief to customers with long-pending dues. The scheme, effective from January 1 to March 31, 2025, aims to encourage defaulters to clear their arrears and regularize their accounts.
Nagpur city currently has 423,809 registered water supply customers, of which 96,368 owe arrears amounting to ₹299.46 crore. This includes a principal amount of ₹117.57 crore and late fees totaling ₹181.89 crore.
Under the scheme, defaulters are required to pay only 20% of their late fees along with the principal amount to settle their dues. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary launched the Abhay Yojana to simplify the process for consumers to clear their accounts and avoid additional penalties.
The NMC’s Water Supply Department has urged defaulters to take advantage of this limited-time initiative. Customers whose water connections have been disconnected due to non-payment can also have their supply restored by clearing their dues and paying the reconnection fee.
