A passenger was beaten to death in the general coach of Dakshin Express (12721) on January 2, following an alleged theft. The incident occurred near Nagpur Railway Station in the early hours and has left the railway community in shock.
The deceased, Shashank Ramsingh Raj, a 25-year-old resident of Rajapur in Uttar Pradesh, was traveling with a friend from Secunderabad to Jhansi. Around 3:30 am, while Shashank was seated near the toilet area and had dozed off, four fellow passengers allegedly stole Rs. 1,700 from his pocket and attempted to take his friend’s mobile phone. Shashank awoke during the theft, retrieved the mobile phone, and demanded his stolen money back. This confrontation led to a violent altercation as the four suspects attacked him with punches and kicks.
Witnesses reported that Shashank sustained severe injuries during the assault, causing him to vomit blood. His condition deteriorated rapidly. When the train reached Nagpur Railway Station, railway doctors examined him and declared him dead. The body was sent to Mayo Hospital for postmortem, and his family was informed of the incident.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) swiftly apprehended the four suspects involved in the attack. They were identified as Mohammad Faiyaz (19), Syed Sameer (18), M. Sham Koteswar Rao (21), and Mohammad Aman (approximately 19). All are residents of Hyderabad. The suspects have been taken into custody.
