The 31st Orange City Craft Mela and Folk Dance Festival, organized by the South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC), will take place from January 10 to 19. The event promises a vibrant celebration of India’s rich cultural heritage, featuring over 150 artisans and 200 folk and tribal artists.
Addressing a press conference, SCZCC Director Astha Karlekar announced that the 10-day festival will showcase exquisite handicrafts and captivating performances from across the country. Visitors can explore craft stalls and enjoy traditional Indian cuisine from various states, making the festival a haven for art lovers and food enthusiasts alike.
Folk and Tribal Dance Performances
From January 10 to 13, the festival will stage mesmerizing folk and tribal dances, including:
- Hojagiri from Tripura
- Mayur and Charkula from Uttar Pradesh
- Kalbelia from Rajasthan
- Maskarat from Puducherry
- Bhangra from Punjab
- Gotipua from Odisha
Special Performances
On January 14, the Maharashtra Directorate of Cultural Affairs will present Maharashtrachi Lokdhara, celebrating the state’s traditional folk heritage. Additionally, SVK Shikshan Sanstha will showcase a unique performance by specially-abled children, highlighting Indian folk and tribal dance styles.
Culinary Delights
Adding a flavorful dimension to the festival, food stalls will offer regional delicacies such as Rajasthani thali, Delhi chaat, Punjabi kulcha, and the distinctive flavors of Vidarbha.
