Nagpur will soon get Sleeper Vande Bharat trains along with the current chair car version. Vinayak Garg, the new Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Central Railway’s Nagpur Division, shared this during his first press conference.
He said a proposal has been sent to the railway headquarters to start two Sleeper Vande Bharat trains on the Nagpur-Pune and Nagpur-Mumbai routes. A decision on this is expected soon.
While speaking to the media on Wednesday, Vinayak Garg also shared updates on important railway projects. He announced that the Nagpur-Balharshah third railway line is expected to be completed by December 2025, while the Nagpur-Itarsi third line is set to be ready by 2026.
He also highlighted proposals under ‘Plan Head 53,’ which include ₹800 crore for passenger amenities and related works, and ₹450 crore for developing goods sheds. Additionally, 68 road overbridges (ROBs) and 56 road underbridges (RUBs) have been proposed at 124 level crossings to improve connectivity and safety.
Vinayak Garg highlighted the importance of the Nagpur Division for Central Railway, noting that over 125 trains operate in all four directions from the division. “Efforts will be made to improve safety and passenger facilities to ensure more comfortable travel. The concerns of railway employees and their families, who play a key role in railway operations, will also be given priority,” he said.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Aman Mittal added that steps like assigning QR codes to authorized vendors have streamlined their verification process. He also mentioned that a tender for cab services has been floated for the third time to reintroduce the service at the station. To address traffic issues, the DCP Traffic has been requested to deploy two constables and one inspector to manage traffic outside the station premises.
