The festive celebration of Makar Sankranti took a tragic turn in Nagpur as three individuals lost their lives in separate incidents involving kite-flying activities.
In a heart-wrenching incident, Krishna Jagatneel Bayrikar (36), a resident of Joshiwadi, Ramteshwari Road, fell from the second-floor terrace of his house while flying kites. The incident occurred around 5:30 pm on January 14 when Krishna lost his balance and plummeted to the ground.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The Ajni police have registered a case of accidental death based on a statement provided by the victim’s brother, Chetan Bayrikar. Investigations are ongoing.
In another mishap, Sohel Khan Salim Khan (23), a resident of Shilanagar, Gautam Nagar, lost his life after falling from the terrace of an abandoned building near Anant Nagar bus stop in Gittikhadan.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:15 pm while Sohel was on the terrace. He was taken to Mayo Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival. The Gittikhadan police have registered a case of accidental death and are probing the matter further.
In a separate incident, Ritesh Gandhshriwar (27) from Hudkeshwar collapsed while chasing kites with friends. Around 9 am, while engaging in the activity, he complained of chest pain and visited a pharmacy for medication. He collapsed there and was rushed to a private hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
These unfortunate incidents have cast a shadow over the festive spirit in the city, prompting renewed calls for caution during outdoor celebrations.
