Vidarbha created history by advancing to their first-ever Vijay Hazare Trophy final. The team secured a convincing 69-run victory over Maharashtra in the semifinal played in Vadodara on Thursday.
Batting first, Vidarbha set a formidable target of 380/3, thanks to a sensational opening stand. Maharashtra, despite a spirited chase, was bowled out for 311 runs.
Vidarbha will face Karnataka in the final on February 18. Karnataka, a four-time champion, defeated Haryana in the second semifinal to secure their fifth appearance in the title match. Meanwhile, Vidarbha will aim to win their maiden Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Opting to bowl first at the Kotambi Stadium, Maharashtra struggled to break Vidarbha’s opening partnership. Openers Dhruv Shorey and Yash Rathod delivered a masterclass, adding 224 runs by the 35th over.
Yash Rathod scored a magnificent 116 before being dismissed, followed shortly by Dhruv Shorey, who contributed 114 runs. Captain Karun Nair, batting at number three, added 21 runs, ensuring Vidarbha capitalized on their strong foundation.
In the other semifinal, Karnataka overcame Haryana to seal their spot in the final. With four titles already under their belt, Karnataka brings significant experience to the clash. Vidarbha, however, will be determined to make the most of their maiden final appearance and claim the trophy.
