In a major breakthrough, Khaparkheda police have apprehended Shaikhu alias Gulnawaz Khan and Azhar Sheikh, the prime accused in the Babulkheda firing incident here, on Tuesday. Nagpur Rural Superintendent of Police Harssh Poddar confirmed their arrests, marking a significant step in resolving the high-profile gang rivalry case.
The violent attack, which occurred on January 2, claimed the life of Pawan Dheeraj Hiranwar and left Shailesh Hiranwar critically injured. The victims, part of the Hiranwar gang, were returning from a temple visit in Babulkheda along with their associates Siddharth Kowe, Sonu Shendre, and Himanshu Gajbhiye. Members of the Shekhu gang, led by Shaikhu Khan, reportedly chased them on two-wheelers and opened fire on their vehicle.
Earlier, police had apprehended Nitesh alias Ankit Ramchandra Dhondge, a member of the Shekhu gang, on January 7 for his involvement in the attack. Dhondge, who has a history of criminal activities, was instrumental in the ambush that targeted members of the rival gang.
