A police constable posted at the official residence of Nagpur Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) Harssh Poddar attempted suicide on Saturday, January 18, morning but is now reported to be out of danger. The incident occurred around 5:45 am at Vrindavan City, Jamtha, leaving the police department in shock.
The constable, identified as Vishal Tumsare (50), a resident of Jaitala, shot himself near the neck with his service self-loading rifle (SLR). Preliminary investigations suggest that Tumsare was distressed over significant financial losses in the stock market, which may have driven him to take the drastic step.
Hearing the gunshot, colleagues rushed to the spot and found Tumsare critically injured. SP Harssh Poddar immediately ensured his evacuation to AIIMS Hospital in MIHAN, where he was admitted to the ICU.
Doctors have now confirmed that Tumsare is stable and recovering, informed SP on Tuesday, January 21.
