Dinesh Waghmare, an IAS officer from Goji village in Wardha district, has been appointed Maharashtra’s new State Election Commissioner (SEC). The post had been vacant since September 2024, after UPS Madan completed his term. Recently, the cabinet authorized Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to choose the new commissioner, resulting in Waghmare’s appointment.
Before this appointment, Dinesh Waghmare worked as the additional principal secretary in the social justice department. He also held key roles as chairman and managing director of MSEDCL and MSETCL. As the State Election Commissioner, he will manage electoral rolls and oversee local body elections in Maharashtra, including zilla parishads, panchayat samitis, gram panchayats, and municipal corporations.
Dinesh Waghmare’s appointment comes at an important time, with local body elections expected soon. His strong ties to Wardha district bring pride to the locals as he takes on the key responsibility of ensuring smooth democratic processes in the state.
