With January 26 falling on a Sunday and coinciding with Republic Day, the Balasaheb Thackeray Gorewada Zoological Park is preparing to welcome a large influx of visitors. “We are expecting over 2,500 visitors for the safari. To manage the heavy footfall, we have arranged five additional 40-seater buses, supplementing the park’s existing fleet of eight buses,” said Shatanik Bhagwat, Divisional Manager and Zoo Director.
Recalling last year’s Republic Day, Bhagwat noted, “More than 1,000 visitors had to be turned away due to overcrowding. While those with advance bookings are guaranteed entry, most visitors come without prior reservations. Offline entry will be on a first-come, first-served basis.”
The park, inaugurated on January 26, 2021, will celebrate its fourth anniversary this Sunday. To mark the occasion, a two-day mini expo began on January 25, featuring food stalls, games, handicrafts, vehicle exhibitions, and various attractions.
The celebrations will continue on January 26, beginning with a flag-hoisting ceremony at 8 AM, followed by the expo. A cake-cutting ceremony led by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Zoo Director will add to the festivities.
