Maoists strangled a 45-year-old man to death in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district on Sunday, accusing him of being a police informer, officials said.
The incident occurred in Kiyer village under Bhamragad tehsil in the early hours of the day.
According to a senior police official, the victim, identified as Sukhram Madavi, was an “innocent civilian” and a resident of Kiyer village.
Maoists left a pamphlet near his body, falsely alleging that he had helped police set up new camps, including one in the Pengunda area.
“This is the first civilian killing by Maoists in Gadchiroli this year,” the official said.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
