As the India vs England One Day International (ODI) match at VCA Jamtha creates a frenzy among cricket fans, social media influencers and black marketeers are under police scrutiny for exploiting eager spectators. Online ticket scams involving fake vouchers and exorbitant resale prices have surged, prompting swift action from the Cyber Police.
Numerous complaints have surfaced on social media, with users reporting cases of scammers selling photoshopped tickets and fraudulent online vouchers. Many cricket enthusiasts, desperate to attend the match, have fallen prey to these deceitful schemes.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1 and Cyber) Lohit Matani confirmed the crackdown. “We have traced the IP addresses of individuals circulating dubious posts about match tickets on social media. Summons have been issued, and they are required to appear for inquiry,” said Matani.
He also urged fans to purchase tickets only from authorized sources and report fraudulent activities, warning that strict action would be taken under the BNS Act against those involved in ticket scams.
In a separate operation, Sadar police apprehended two individuals on Monday for allegedly impersonating Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) officials and illegally selling tickets at inflated prices.
The accused were identified as Manohar Hemdas Wanjari (62) of Gandhibagh and Rahul Bhaudas Ramteke (38) from Dattawadi.
According to police sources, the duo targeted cricket enthusiasts by posing as VCA officials and offering overpriced tickets. Acting on a tip-off, Sadar police conducted a swift operation and apprehended the suspects red-handed.
Authorities have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious ticket sales, especially online.
