In a bid to enhance road safety and streamline traffic, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is set to install modern safety measures at 12 prominent squares across the city. The initiative aims to prevent accidents and improve overall traffic management.
The targeted squares are spread across central, west, and southwest Nagpur, including Agyaram Devi Square, Dosar Bhavan Square, Alankar Talkies Square, and Congress Nagar Square, among others. The proposal, prepared by NMC’s traffic department, includes various upgrades for smoother and safer commutes.
Key improvements will include zebra crossings, dedicated lanes for vehicles, and innovative safety features like cat-eye raised pavement markers that reflect vehicle headlights and 360-degree solar markers that blink to guide drivers. Retroreflective green boards will direct traffic, while concrete bollards will prevent heavy vehicles from entering restricted roads. To add a touch of elegance, beautification features such as chequered tiles, paver blocks, and designer metal trees will adorn the squares.
The project, which will cost approximately Rs 4.90 crores, is expected to significantly boost pedestrian and vehicular safety. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari emphasized the importance of public cooperation for the success of this initiative, encouraging citizens to follow the new safety measures for a smoother and safer city commute.
