Roshan Shaikh, 37, accused of blackmailing married women with explicit videos, now faces a rape charge from a 29-year-old Dubai woman. She alleged that Shaikh had sex with her for a year, filming compromising videos under the pretext of marriage.
According to a local daily report, Shaikh, arrested two days ago, was paraded in his neighborhood by police before being taken to his residence. His phone has been seized, and authorities suspect he may have more concealed devices with evidence. Despite 11 offences against him, he was acquitted of MCOCA charges last year, but his past relationships remain under scrutiny.
Roshan Shaikh, already accused of blackmailing married women, had a past rape case in Mumbai. On Monday, Sadar police, heading to his Friends Colony residence for investigation, had to walk 250m with him in public after their vehicle broke down.
His latest victim, a Dubai-based woman, frequently visited Nagpur and claimed Shaikh defamed her by showing explicit images to acquaintances. She later discovered his blackmailing history. Introduced to him last year, she alleged that on August 4, Shaikh forced himself on her at a Nelson Square hotel, promising marriage.
After an intimate encounter at a Wadi hotel, Shaikh told the survivor he couldn’t marry her due to community differences, leaving her furious. Despite her efforts to end the relationship, he kept returning with apologies.
Zonal DCP Rahul Madne urged victims to come forward, stating that police seized another mobile phone and are searching for more electronic evidence. Sources revealed Shaikh came under the police radar after videos surfaced of him assaulting an army man and brandishing a weapon while driving. Fluent in English, he frequently visited pubs and resto-lounges to befriend women.
