After years of delays, the Pardi flyover is finally set to open for traffic on February 16. Nearly 9.5 years after its bhoomipujan and 7.5 years since construction began, the project is now in its final stages. Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) confirmed that recarpeting and light installation work is currently underway.
The NHAI has repeatedly pushed back the completion deadline for the Pardi flyover. In early 2024, it promised to finish the Manewada and Central Avenue arms by August, but the deadline was later extended to September. Officials then assured completion by December 2024, yet that target was also missed.
The five-arm Pardi flyover has faced multiple delays since its inception. Though three arms were opened for traffic in September 2023, the project has encountered setbacks from the beginning. Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the bhoomipujan in August 2014, but construction did not start until June 2016. Quality concerns added to the delays, with the collapse of ten girders on the Kalamna arm in October 2021 further postponing the opening of the first three arms.
Construction of the flyover has caused significant hardships for Pardi residents and commuters passing through HB Town Square. The road beneath the flyover was severely damaged, riddled with large potholes, and led to several minor accidents over the past 7.5 years. However, with the NHAI now concretizing the road, there is hope that the long-standing troubles of residents and travelers will finally come to an end.
