Nagpur: The Rotary Club of Nagpur, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, Zilla Parishad, is set to host ‘UDAAN,’ a special event for children with special needs. The programme will take place on February 17 at Police Ground, Katol Road, from 8 AM to 4:30 PM, club president Neerja Shukul announced during a press conference at Patrakar Club, Civil Lines, on Saturday.
The event will be inaugurated by chief guests Ashish Deshmukh, MLA, and Kishor Bhoyar, Social Welfare Officer. Other dignitaries present at the announcement included Past President Tauby Bhagvagar, President-Elect Parag Date, and Directors Namita Sharma, Mamta Singh, and Sanjay Agarwal, along with Ragini Sahu.
A flagship project of the Rotary Club, ‘UDAAN’ is supported by Lata Mangeshkar Hospital and various other organizations. The event will see participation from around 750 children with special needs from 44 schools, engaging in sports and cultural activities. Competitions will include track and field races, drawing, rangoli, and cultural performances.
To ensure the well-being of all attendees, the organizers will provide T-shirts and caps to participants, while medical support, including an ambulance, will be available on-site. The children will be accompanied by 150 teachers and technical support staff, along with hundreds of volunteers.
The initiative aims to create an inclusive environment for children with special needs, encouraging their participation in extracurricular activities while promoting awareness and support for their development.
