To tackle rising temperatures, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) takes preventive steps every summer to protect citizens. In this effort, Additional Commissioner Mrs. Anchal Goyal held a review meeting on Tuesday (18th) for the Heatwave Prevention and Control Program.
The meeting took place in the Additional Commissioner’s conference room and was attended by Deputy Commissioner Mr. Vijay Deshmukh, Medical Health Officer Dr. Deepak Selokar, Chief Sanitation Officer Dr. Gajendra Mahalle, Executive Engineer (Projects) Mrs. Alpana Patne, Assistant Education Officer Mr. Sanjay Dighore, Nodal Medical Officer (Epidemics) Dr. Govardhan Navkhare, and other officials.
Every year, NMC runs the Heatwave Prevention and Control Program across the city. In the meeting, Dr. Govardhan Navkhare presented details of the program to Additional Commissioner Mrs. Anchal Goyal. She instructed that drinking water be provided at bus depots, petrol pumps, markets, and other crowded areas through water tankers. She also suggested working with market associations to set up designated water stations.
Further directives included:
Keeping all city parks open from 12 PM to 4 PM.
Sprinkling water on roads using tankers.
Installing green nets at key intersections.
Ensuring drinking water facilities for laborers at construction sites by coordinating with contractors.
Providing drinking water for street animals and birds at municipal buildings, schools, and gardens.
Setting up shelter homes for street animals with proper ventilation, with assistance from social organizations if needed
Mist cooling systems will be installed in various municipal buildings.
The meeting was also attended by officials from different departments, including Pramod Khobragade (Social Development), Sanjay Gujar (Garden), Prakash Yamde and Narendra Bhandarkar (Water Supply), Satish Rahate (Disaster Management – Fire Department), and S.S. Chomate (Slum Department).
