RTMNU is moving its Examination and Result Department back to its old building near Maharajbag. Currently, the department is located at LITU campus. The Maharashtra government asked RTMNU to vacate the space after Laxminarayan Institute of Technology became a deemed university. Other departments had already started shifting, but RTMNU delayed moving the Examination Department at first, which caused some delays.
According to media reports, RTMNU Vice Chancellor Dr. Prashant Bokare said that “We have decided to move to our ownpremisesnear Maharajbag. Some of our departments have offices there which will be shifted in the pres-ent Jamnalal Bajaj Bhavan and Examination Department will function in old premises. We are planning to construct a build-ing behind our existing Jamnalal Bajaj Bhavan which will house Examination Department.” Laxminarayan Institute of Technology (LIT), previously a part of RTMNU, first became a Unitary Public University before receiving deemed university status.
LIT needs its campus vacated to introduce new courses. The Examination Department, inaugurated over 20 years ago during Laxmanrao Dhoble’s tenure as Higher and Technical Education Minister, was never expected to relocate. Meanwhile, the Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Biotechnology departments were merged into LITU, which also accommodated some RTMNU employees.
Dr. Bokare said that the old university building near Maharajbag is a heritage site and needs renovation without changing its original look. The university will ask for permission from the Department of Archaeology for this. He also mentioned that the Examination Department has many responsibilities, such as conducting exams, preparing results, issuing mark sheets, admit cards, migration and eligibility certificates, and handling PhD work. Moving it to a new place is a big task.
