Mumbai:- Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will perform Bhoomipujan of ‘Pariwahan Bhavan’ in Mumbi, the headquarters of the Regional Transport Office (RTO), on Sunday. Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar will remain present, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik informed the media.
The RTO came into being on March 1, 1940. The day is celebrated as ‘Pariwahan Din’ every year. The headquarters was accommodated for 85 years in a rented premises. The Maharashtra Government has decided to construct its own building. The four-storey building of 12,800 SqM is being constructed on Pochkhanwala Road, Worli, Mumbai. The building with a parking facility for about 150 vehicles is expected to be ready in two and a half years. The department contributes about Rs 15,000 crores of revenue to the state’s exchequer.
