Concerns over the safety of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) flyovers have resurfaced after yet another incident of a falling object was reported on Tuesday afternoon. This time, a wooden plankgot dislodged from the Katol Road arm of Sadar flyover, crashing onto a moving vehicle at Chhaoni T-point.
Motorist’s Close Shave
The incident occurred around 12:30 PM, when Neeraj Vyas, a motorist traveling in his four-wheeler to a nearby bank on Katol Road, was suddenly startled by a thick wooden shaft landing on his car’s bonnet. The impact left a dent on the vehicle, but fortunately, Vyas escaped unhurt.
Upon stepping out to inspect the damage, Vyas noticed that the 2-foot-long wooden piece had come loose from the junction of two units of the flyover. He shuddered at the potential consequences had it struck a pedestrian.
Recurring Safety Concerns Over NHAI Flyovers
This incident adds to a growing list of safety concerns surrounding NHAI flyovers in the city. Just a month ago, a motorist on Bhandara Road had a close call when a concrete chunk fell from the newly inaugurated Wardhaman Nagar arm of the Pardi Project. Before that, a span of the Pardi flyover on Kalamna Road had collapsed, raising serious doubts about construction quality and safety measures.
Though no injuries have been reported in these incidents, the repeated failures have alarmed residents and put NHAI’s construction standards under scrutiny. The latest episode has once again sparked demands for urgent safety audits and corrective measures to prevent further mishaps.
