Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari presented a Rs 5438.61 crore budget for the financial year 2025-26, maintaining a surplus of Rs 39.56 crore without any tax increase. The total estimated expenditure stands at Rs 5399.05 crore, with a focus on infrastructure, sustainability, and civic services.
The budget prioritizes key sectors such as roads, street lighting, education, healthcare, water supply, sanitation, and waste management. Dr. Chaudhari emphasized initiatives like the expansion of India’s first double-decker water tank system, making Dharampeth, Nehru Nagar, Hudkeshwar, Narsala, and Mangalwari tanker-free, with plans to extend this across the city.
For 2025-26, NMC projects self-generated revenue of Rs 3572.20 crore, supplemented by Rs 1167.54 crore in state government grants. Key revenue sources include Rs 1772 crore from GST and Rs 70 crore from stamp duty. The town planning department expects Rs 500 crore in revenue.
Major infrastructure investments include Rs 304.41 crore for the Nag River Pollution Control Project, Rs 163 crore for drainage and river conservation, and Rs 16.50 crore for public toilet construction under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Additionally, NMC will construct 23.45 km of cement concrete roads and operationalize an upgraded Hot Mix Plant by April 2025.
To enhance digital governance, property tax bills will be sent via speed post and WhatsApp, and rebates will be given to Green Building-certified properties. The hoarding department will introduce QR codes to track unauthorized billboards.
New social and environmental initiatives include the Clean Street Food Initiative, 1.5 lakh tree plantations, EV charging stations, telemedicine services, CCTV installation in municipal schools, and attendance allowances for girls with over 80% school attendance. The Ramai Housing Scheme will provide 1500 new homes for Scheduled Castes and Neo-Buddhists.
