The Transport Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has presented a budget of Rs 597.32 crore for 2025-26, emphasizing electric mobility. Transport Manager Vinod Jadhav submitted the budget to Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary on March 21.
For 2024-25, the revised estimates project revenue of Rs 509.31 crore and expenses of Rs 505.81 crore. The 2025-26 budget forecasts revenue of Rs 597.32 crore and expenditure of Rs 596.70 crore, leaving a surplus of Rs 62.46 lakh.
The city will receive 400 new electric buses, including 250 standard AC electric buses under a Rs 137 crore grant and 144 AC midi buses under the 15th Finance Commission. The Prime Minister’s e-Bus Scheme has sanctioned 150 electric midi buses, set to operate from Koradi and Khapri depots by July 2025. Additionally, 25 articulated buses with 57-seat capacity will be introduced.
Rs 31 crore has been allocated for electric bus depot construction, with Rs 2 crore for land acquisition. The total operational cost for 2025-26 is Rs 280 crore, with expected revenue of Rs 110 crore, while the Rs 170 crore deficit will be covered by municipal grants.
With these initiatives, Nagpur aims to enhance sustainable transport, ensuring efficient urban mobility for its residents.
