In a swift crackdown, Hudkeshwar police apprehended a 21-year-old man for allegedly robbing an elderly wheelchair-bound man of gold jewelry and cash worth ₹1.85 lakh.
The incident took place on March 19, between 5:40 PM and 5:55 PM, at the residence of 82-year-old Mahendrakumar Ramlalji Verma in Jawahar Nagar, Hudkeshwar. Verma was alone at home when an unidentified suspect barged in and forcibly snatched a gold chain with a locket and a purse containing ₹5,000 before fleeing.
Following a complaint by Verma’s daughter, Adv. Meena Mahendrakumar Verma (62), Hudkeshwar police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and launched an investigation.
70 CCTVs Scanned to Trace Accused:
During the probe, police examined footage from 70 CCTV cameras across the area. The suspect was identified as Omprakash Dumdev Nikore (21), a resident of Om Nagar, Sakkardara. A well-planned operation led to his arrest near Prashant Bar on Manewada Road.
Upon interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime, and police recovered the stolen gold chain and cash, collectively valued at ₹1.85 lakh.
