The NDPS squad of Crime Branch has apprehended a drug peddler from Hasanbagh and seized mephedrone (MD) worth ₹2.73 lakh, believed to have been sourced from Mumbai. The accused was caught during a late-night patrol on April 25, Friday, near Madina Masjid in Galli No. 4, Hasanbagh.
The arrested accused has been identified as Sheikh Nazir Sheikh Wazir (40), a resident of Hasanbagh. Notably, he is the nephew of notorious criminal Samshere and has a past criminal record, including a murder case registered in 2014.
During the operation, Nazir was found standing suspiciously near a moped. Acting on suspicion, police searched him in the presence of two witnesses and recovered 32 grams of MD drug,
a mobile phone, moped, cash and other materials. The total value of the seized items is estimated at ₹2.73 lakh.
Police have launched a search for the absconding co-accused, Assu alias Byalis alias Sheikh Naseem (35), also a resident of Hasanbagh. Preliminary investigation suggests that Naseem had supplied the MD drug from Mumbai, and is currently hiding in Dongri, Mumbai.
A case has been registered under sections 8(c), 22(b), and 29 of the NDPS Act at Nandanvan Police Station (Crime No. 182/2025). Police are intensifying efforts to trace Naseem and bust the larger drug network linked to the case.
