What was once a smooth cement road connecting Rameshwari to Ajni Railway Colony has now become a dangerous obstacle course, thanks to the poorly executed sewage pipeline project by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). Residents are outraged over the incomplete and careless work that has left the road in ruins.
The entire stretch was dug up to lay an underground sewer line, but the road was never properly restored. To make matters worse, four large concrete manhole chambers now protrude awkwardly from the narrow lane, turning into hazardous bumps. The uneven, gravel-filled surface has made walking or driving on it both risky and uncomfortable.
“This road used to be one of the best. Now it feels like a war zone,” says Suresh Wankhede, a retired railway worker.
School teacher Meena Tayde adds, “These manholes act like deadly speed breakers. A fall here could be fatal.”
Auto-rickshaw driver Rafiq Sheikh complains of constant vehicle damage: “I’ve already repaired my rickshaw twice this month. Who’s responsible?”
Resident Ankita Jaiswal raises another concern: “Some stretches have no streetlights. At night, the road is a trap.”
With the monsoon approaching, the unfinished road poses an even greater risk. The absence of proper resurfacing and drainage only adds to the danger.
Citizens demand that the NMC take immediate corrective action and treat road restoration with the urgency it deserves — before another public utility project turns into a public hazard.
