In a key step toward expanding access to professional education in Vidarbha, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is set to establish a new branch in Gondia, fulfilling a long-standing demand from local students and parents. Currently, Gondia hosts a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) centre, commonly known as a study centre, for ICAI members.
In addition, ICAI is also exploring the possibility of setting up a new study centre in Bhandara, further strengthening its regional footprint under the Western India Regional Council (WIRC).
The upcoming Gondia branch will be the fourth WIRC branch in Vidarbha, where ICAI already operates in Nagpur, Amravati, and Akola. WIRC currently oversees 36 branches and 53 study centres across its jurisdiction.
Speaking at a press interaction during his visit to Nagpur on Saturday, WIRC Chairman CA Ketan Saiya confirmed that Gondia has met the necessary requirements for opening a full-fledged ICAI branch. “A city must have at least 200 registered Chartered Accountants to qualify for a branch, and 20 CAs are required to establish a study centre,” Saiya explained.
He further stated that ICAI had recently received a formal request from Gondia’s CA community, and a WIRC team is scheduled to visit the city on July 20 to assess the feasibility and take the next steps.
The proposed developments are expected to provide significant educational and professional benefits to aspiring CAs and practicing professionals in Gondia and Bhandara districts.
