In a move that’s already stirring massive environmental backlash, the Maharashtra Government has officially handed over 87.351 hectares of forest land in Nagpur’s Kalmeshwar tehsil to Adani Power Maharashtra Ltd. for its Gondkhairi Underground Coal Mine Project. The forest clearance—issued on July 21, 2025
The land in question includes protected Section 4 Reserved Forest and rich Zudpi Jungle—ecosystems vital for water recharge, wildlife, and local climate regulation. Over 40 forest plots, some as large as 31 hectares, are being cleared . The approval, pushed swiftly from proposal to final clearance within months.
Public hearing, environmental cost analysis not yet disclosed, and no mention of where compensatory afforestation will occur. Villagers who live near these forests remain unaware.
Development or Devastation? this coal comes soaked in green blood.
