Nagpur: In a decisive action against establishments flouting excise norms and operating beyond permissible hours, the Zone 1 police have ordered the temporary closure of NH1 and Bakasur restaurants for 15 days, starting July 23. The crackdown was initiated under the directives of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) S. Rushikesh Reddy.
The move comes after a late-night raid conducted on July 22, during which police found that both restaurants were illegally allowing customers to consume alcohol on their premises without valid licences. Despite previous warnings and enforcement actions, the establishments reportedly continued to offer space and facilities for liquor consumption in violation of the Maharashtra State Excise regulations.
The police have booked the operators of Apna Dhaba NH1 — Mangesh Kashikar of Shankar Nagar and Shishir Indra Kishansh (54) of Trust Layout — along with Ankit Tejas Ramteke (28), the manager of Bakasur, who resides in Motibagh, Pachauli.
Earlier, DCP Reddy had issued a clear warning to bar and restaurant operators regarding strict compliance with excise norms. “No establishment is allowed to permit liquor consumption without a valid licence. Any violation will result in strict legal action and suspension of licences,” he had cautioned.
The temporary closure aims to serve as a deterrent to other establishments engaging in similar violations, especially ahead of upcoming festivals and public events.
