In a chilling incident that has once again shaken the city, a 50-year-old woman was brutally murdered in broad daylight near Jawaharlal Vidyarthi Gruha, close to Indira Convent near Dharampeth, under the jurisdiction of Sitabuldi Police Station on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Maya Bai Madan Pesarkar, a resident of the same locality. According to police sources, unidentified assailants slit her throat in a gruesome attack, sparking panic and outrage among local residents.
The brutal nature of the crime and the fact that it occurred during the day has left the area in shock. Eyewitnesses and neighbours are in disbelief, and several speculations are being made about the possible motive behind the murder.
Soon after receiving the information, teams from Sitabuldi Police Station, the Crime Branch, and senior police officials rushed to the spot. A forensic team also arrived and began collecting crucial evidence from the scene. The body has been sent to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for post-mortem examination.
As of now, the motive behind the murder remains unclear. No suspects have been detained yet. Police are probing whether the incident was the result of a personal enmity or part of a premeditated plan. Investigations are underway on all angles, and efforts are being made to track down the attacker(s).
