The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded an Orange Alert for Nagpur district on July 25 and 26, indicating a likely surge in rainfall intensity across the region. Initially, the alert was only for July 25, but the IMD updated its forecast on Wednesday to extend it by another day.
Rain-bearing clouds have engulfed not just Nagpur but the entire Vidarbha region, prompting alerts for several other districts as well. Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli have also been placed under Orange Alert for the same two-day period.
With the monsoon gaining momentum, Brahmapuri recorded the highest rainfall in the last 36 hours at 92.6 mm, followed by Wardha with 85 mm and Chandrapur with 72 mm. Other areas also saw significant showers, including Yavatmal (30.4 mm), Gadchiroli (16 mm), Amravati (12 mm), and Akola (11.8 mm). Meanwhile, lighter showers were recorded in Bhandara (2.7 mm), Buldana (7.1 mm), and Gondia (2.6 mm).
Despite continuous rain, relative humidity remained above 71% across Vidarbha. The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall to continue across the region until July 27.
