The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) Nagpur has issued a weather bulletin forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall over Nagpur and surrounding areas in the coming days. According to the latest synoptic observations, the depression over coastal West Bengal and the adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal is moving west-northwestward, significantly influencing weather conditions across Vidarbha. This system, combined with a strong monsoon trough, is expected to bring intense rainfall activity, particularly over Nagpur, through the weekend.
The forecast indicates that on Friday, July 25, Nagpur will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The weather is expected to intensify further on Saturday, July 26, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a Red Alert for the district, warning of extremely heavy downpours and the possibility of localized flooding and waterlogging. On Sunday, July 27, rainfall activity will remain strong with an Orange Alert, suggesting the continued risk of intense showers. However, from Monday, July 28, the weather is likely to ease, with only moderate showers predicted, and by Tuesday, July 29, no significant weather warning is in place.
Rainfall distribution across Vidarbha has already been widespread, with extremely heavy showers reported in some areas. Gadchiroli recorded 4 cm of rain on Friday, followed by 2 cm in Gondia, and 1 cm each in Washim, Amravati, and Chandrapur. Temperature variations remain within normal ranges, with Akola recording the highest temperature at 30.3°C and Amravati registering the lowest minimum temperature at 22.1°C.
The IMD has urged residents to remain cautious during the red and orange alert days, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay updated with official advisories.
