Repeated delays, zero progress prompt action; fresh tender to be issued
In a decisive move, the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) has blacklisted city-based M/s Aditya Construction Company for failing to even begin work on the much-anticipated OBC Bhavan, a key welfare infrastructure project meant for the Other Backward Classes community in Nagpur.
Despite bagging the contract by quoting a bid 24% below the estimated cost, the firm did not mobilize equipment or start basic groundwork. Over six months passed with no progress, and repeated extensions were sought without valid justification, said NIT officials.
Fed up with the inaction, NIT reviewed the firm’s performance and found no credible reason for the stalling. The agency has now barred the firm from future tenders for a specified period. “The delay has caused serious administrative setbacks and blocked access to vital services for the OBC community,” an official stated.
Worse, Aditya Construction had already been blacklisted by departments like Maharashtra’s Water Resources and Public Works Departments for similar failures—details it failed to disclose in its self-declaration form to NIT.
The OBC Bhavan, announced in the 2025–26 budget alongside Varkari and Kunbi Bhavans, is aimed at serving as a community hub for events and accommodation. To rescue the project, NIT will now float a fresh tender to bring in a new contractor and fast-track execution under a revised timeline.
NIT’s message is loud and clear: contractors who delay public welfare projects will face tough consequences.
