While traffic glides smoothly over the Kamptee Road flyover, the stretch beneath—especially the Railway underbridge near Gurudwara—has become a nightmare of deep potholes, waterlogging, and neglect.
Despite the road falling under the National Highway (NH) Division of the PWD, the agency has failed to act—even after repeated complaints from citizens. The underbridge remains riddled with craters, posing a serious risk to motorists.
Fed up with the inaction, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has now taken matters into its own hands, launching asphalting work on the damaged stretch. “Yes, it’s not our jurisdiction, but we can’t ignore public suffering,” said Sunil Uikey, Executive Engineer of NMC’s Mangalwari Zone.
Social activist Prakash Gajbhiye, who has been chasing the issue for months, said, “When corporators were active, such roads were fixed fast. Now, there’s only apathy.”
The NH Division claims a proposal was floated to cement the road up to Indora Square and hand it over to NMC, but that handover never materialized. The result: a jurisdictional deadlock and a dangerous, decaying road.
Earlier this monsoon, when the RuB was submerged, it was again NMC that deployed pumps, not the NH Division.
This episode once again exposes the chronic dysfunction caused by inter-agency confusion and neglect—with citizens left to pay the price.
