India is beaming with pride as Divya Deshmukh clinches the title of FIDE Women’s World Chess Champion 2025, and at the heart of these celebrations is her family in Nagpur — emotional, proud, and overwhelmed by the nation’s admiration.
Her father, Dr. Jitendra Deshmukh, expressed his heartfelt reaction, “This is a matter of immense pride, not just for our family but for the entire country. Divya’s hard work, focus, and determination have brought glory to India. It’s a truly historic moment that we will cherish forever.”
Divya’s aunt, Smita Deshmukh, also shared her joy. “We are very happy. Divya worked extremely hard for this moment. It’s a double celebration for India — we won both the Gold and Silver medals. We are eagerly waiting for her return to Nagpur to celebrate together. This is a big day not only for us but for the entire nation.”
Her grandmother, Dr. Kamal Deshmukh, was visibly emotional as she said:
“She has made us so proud. We’ve seen her dedication day in and day out. I’m especially touched that Prime Minister Modi personally congratulated her — it shows the magnitude of this achievement.”
As the Deshmukh household prepares to welcome their champion back to Nagpur, the city too is gearing up to honor its young chess prodigy who has now become a symbol of India’s rising stature in the global chess arena.
