In a landmark step to revolutionize early childhood education, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday inaugurated the nation’s first AI-enabled Anganwadi under the ambitious “Mission Bal Bharari” in Waddhamna village, Hingna tehsil, Nagpur. This initiative aims to bring cutting-edge technology like VR headsets, AI dashboards, and interactive digital content to rural pre-school classrooms.
Developed by the Nagpur Zilla Parishad, the project seeks to narrow the digital divide in public education by equipping Anganwadis—traditionally basic childcare centers—with futuristic learning tools usually reserved for elite schools. Children from underprivileged backgrounds will now experience immersive, engaging, and curiosity-driven learning from a young age.
The launch event witnessed the presence of top dignitaries including Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Minister of State Ashish Jaiswal, MLAs Sameer Meghe and Sanjay Meshram, Divisional Commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari, Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar, and ZP CEO Vinayak Mahamuni.
As part of the pilot, Anganwadi workers have undergone specialized training to manage AI-integrated tools and ensure effective teaching outcomes. The initiative is set to reshape foundational education by promoting joyful, creative, and participatory learning.
According to Deputy CEO Dr. Kailas Ghodke, 49 AI-enabled Anganwadis are already underway, with 40 more in the pipeline. “Every child, rural or urban, deserves the best start to learning,” he said.
With this, Nagpur takes the lead in India’s digital education movement, showcasing how technology can uplift the most grassroots levels of society.
